Mimiko to Ondo people : I will not disappoint you

Governor Olusegun MimikoGovernor of Ondo state, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko has assured his kinsmen that he would not disappoint them as he prepares to start his second term in office.

Mimiko who was re-elected in the October 20, 2012 governorship poll, will begin his second term on February 24.

Speaking at a grand reception held on Sunday in his honour by the people of Ondo community and members of the Labour Party from Ondo East and West Local Government areas, Mimiko expressed joy at the reception given to him which he said has shown that indeed a prophet could be honoured in his homeland.

While using the occasion to reiterate his resolve to work for the people as he did in his first term, the Ondo State Governor assured them of the determination of his administration to consolidate on the achievements recorded while new areas of opportunity would be explored in order to improve the living standard of the people.

His words : “It is heartwarming that I am honoured at home and I thank God for making me a shining example for the Ekimoguns.”

Earlier in his welcome address, the leader of the Labour Party ( LP) in Ondo East and West Local Government, Chief Isaac Folorunso Akintade described the occasion as very unique stating that the people of the areas are very proud of Governor Mimiko for bringing honour to them.

Akintade also lauded the administration of Governor Mimiko for what he observed as the execution of various projects in sectors which include education, health, urban renewal, commerce and industry, among others, which he said has added values to the lives of the people, adding that it was the realization of this fact that the people decided to organised the party and thanksgiving to show appreciation to God for the journey so far.

Earlier during a thanksgiving service held at the St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Ondo town before the reception which took place at the sport ground of St. Joseph’s College in Ondo town, the provost of the church, Very. Rev. Stephen Adeniran Oni congratulated Governor Mimiko and the entire people of the state over his recent victory at the October 20 poll.

Rev. Adeniran who delivered a sermon on behalf of the Archbishop of Ondo Anglican Diocese, Archbishop Dr. Gabriel Latunji Lasebikan, described the occasion as a special day.

The religious leader who alluded to several biblical passages to drive home his points, described the emergence of Gov. Mimiko as divine arrangement, stating that no one can get to any position of authority without the backing of Almighty God.

He admonished the Governor to be focused, remain steadfast and seek constantly for divine guidance, knowledge and wisdom from God who placed him in position of authority in order for him to excel.

Archbishop Lasebikan, however, commended Mimiko for the various efforts being made by his administration towards improving the lots of the people through the execution of some projects in different parts of the state.

The church service, which featured bible reading, exhortation, songs rendition and admission of holy communion was attended by many LP leaders from across the state. Some of those in attendance were the State Chairman of the LP, Chief Olu Ogidan; member representing Ondo East/ West at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Iranola Akinlaja; Commissioner for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju; Majority Leader at the Ondo State House of Assembly, Hon. Ifedayo Akinsoyinu.

Others were Ondo State Secretary of the Christian Association of Nigeria ( C AN), Rev. Nelson Fadoju ; State Deputy Chairman LP, Chief Dele Akinyele; Chief Soledayo Ogunniyi; Chief Isaac Folorunso Akintade; Chef Abayomi Bademosi; Chief Jise Akinmurele as well as member Ondo State House of Assembly Commission, Hon. Mrs. Cecelia Fayase and Chief Festus Akinribido.
