Renowned Educationist and Former Education Minister, late Professor Babs Fafunwa called for the use of Mother Tongue teaching in schools especially at the Primary level and a research was carried out in Ife then and it was discovered that pupils taught using the mother tongue did better than their counter parts taught using English as a medium of communication but it didn’t go a long way and now Educationist in the country are canvassing for the use of mother tongue again to be use in teaching in schools. Their point was that student tends to assimilate more when taught using mother tongue.
