What is the position of Dr. S. O. Ogbemudia, the Edo South leader of the PDP? Is he still with you people?
Well, I would say that I have not spoken with him in the last few weeks. I met with him at the beginning of the year. I believe and we had very good conversation. He is still a full member of PDP. He gave some very useful insight on what we should be doing in the party. His daughter (Uyi) is still very active in the PDP and some of those who were in his group before like Arisco and Francis Iyasere have been very, very active in our tour and have been eulogising the PDP and giving support to the PDP. So, one can deduce from there that Dr. S. O. Ogbemudia has remained and continue to remain a very strong member and leader of the PDP.
Some of the aspirants have threatened to leave the party with their supporters if the primary election is skewed to favour a particular aspirant. Will you take such step…?
(Cuts in) Well, that question really does not apply to me because I am going to win the primary election by the grace of God and the support of the delegates. So, the question of my leaving the party does not arise. What I believe is that every party has its own internal mechanism of addressing disaffection, frustration and anger and I believe that, like I said at the beginning, the primary will be free and fair and nobody will have reasons for leaving the party for another party.
Based on the achievements of Governor Adams Oshiomhole in the State, do you think you can match him if you are given the PDP ticket?
What has Oshiomhole done? That is the question. How many new industries? In job creation, apart from those he appointed into government, he further increased the public wage bill. Tell me how many jobs he has created. In Education, do we really have an educated system in this state today? In security, can we really say we are safe in Edo State today? In Women Affairs, do we have a gender policy in Edo State today? In Environment, I don’t need to tell you, go to Aduwawa and other areas, you will see the gutter still as filthy as they were three years ago. He (Oshiomhole) did some things at Ring Road but there are over a million pot holes in Edo South alone, including the GRA here where you cannot drive any low car. All the feeder roads in Edo have not been done. We are expanding roads without potholes-Federal Government roads. The roads that need attention have not been addressed. So, what is all these noise about what Oshiomhole has done? When the campaigns begin, we will talk to Edo people and we will know who is telling the truth. In housing, where is the housing policy of the government? In Agriculture, Lakoju, his commissioner was there for two years; he was on Television that for two years, he never got one Naira approved for his ministry as Commissioner for Agriculture. The truth of the matter is that he (Oshiomhole) has done his best, but that best is certainly not good enough for Edo State.
