The high point of the 2012 National Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) held at Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, was the conduct of election to its governing council.
According to the institute, four members of the governing council were re-elected following expiration of their terms in office.
The four members are Mrs. Funmilayo Bola Babington-Ashaye, Mr Femi Jonathan Okunniyi, Sir Muftau Olakunle Oyegunle and Dr Justus Clinton Uranta.
The elections also produced a new entrant into the Governing Council. He is Mr Steve Okerefome Odjugo.
The President of the Council, Dr Julius Oluwole Adetimehin, handed certificates of election to the elected council members while urging them to give their best in the service of their cherished profession and the Institute.
According to the council, they would be formally sworn-in at the next council meeting during which they would renew their oath of allegiance to the Institute.
CIIN President, Dr Adetimehin, in a related development, has called on members of all arms of the Insurance Industry to show more interest in the membership of the Institute’s Governing Council.
Adetimehin decried the situation whereby nominations for seats on the Council tallied with the exact number of vacancies, stating that the days were gone when it was erroneously reasoned that the CIIN Council was only for underwriters.
The CIIN President said that he looked forward to a more robust competition for seats on the Council.
