Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has called on the people to resist all attempts by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and Governor Rauf Aregbesola to reduce the constitutional status of Osun State to an extension and annex of Lagos State.
This is contained in a statement by the Director of Publicity and Strategy of Osun State PDP, Prince Diran Odeyemi.
According to the PDP, Aregbesola has started implementing his plan of including Osun State in the expansionist programme of his National Leader, not only through awards of contracts to mainly Lagosians but also selling large portion of lands in the state to the Lagos State Government.
“The PDP is hereby challenging the Governor of Osun State to shed light on the sale of Osun land to Lagos State, stating the reasons and necesity for the deal.
“The Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola said, at the inauguration of Lagos State's Farm Service in Lagos on Wednesday, that Lagos State Government has purchased land in Osogbo as reported in a national newspaper.
“To this end, the burden lies on Osun State Governor to let the people of Osun State and Nigerians know the nitty-gritty of the said land sale, the amount involved in the sale and the benefit it will bring to the people.
"It is a proof that the Action Congress of Nigeria is out to expand the business empire of its financier, while deceiving the people with regional business.
“The PDP believes that apart from the sale of land in Osogbo to Lagos State Government, there are other plans by Aregbesola to surrender the political and most importantly economic sovereignty of Osun to his benefactor and sponsors.
“The PDP is also calling the attention of the people of Osun State to the work schedule of Governor Aregbesola who as a matter of routine spends only three days in a week in the state while he spends the rest of the week in Lagos.
"What this shows is that Governor Aregbesola is not serious about governance neither is he interested in the welfare of the people of the state but only working towards annexing Osun State to Lagos State," Odeyemi declared.
Also commenting on the statement credited to Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal, the Speaker of the House of Representatives attesting to lack of tension in the state, Odeyemi said the Speaker was only being statesmanly by playing down the tension.
"As a matter of coutesy, he visited the governor on his way to a burial party in the state and we know that few hours of passage is not enough to access the true feelings of the people of the state but as the Speaker, he just must douse the tension" Odeyemi said.
