2015: Poor treatment of Yoruba may affect Jonathan -Igbomina President

The President of Orisun Igbomina, a socio-cultural organisation in Kwara State, Chief Gbenga Awoyale, in this interview with newsmen in Ilorin, Kwara State, speaks on the alleged marginalisation of the South-West geo-political zone of the country and other sundry issues. BIODUN OYELEYE was there.

The governorship election in Ekiti State is about a year away. As expected, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which is hoping to reclaim the state from the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), is having an avalanche of aspirants jostling for the party’s ticket. On the list of PDP aspirants is the former spokesman of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere, Prince Adedayo Adeyeye, who few days ago, took his letter of intent to the leadership of the party in Ado-Ekiti. The outcome of conduct of the April 20, 2013 local government elections in the 18 councils in Edo State by the ruling Action Congress of Nigeria-led administration of Governor Adams Oshiomhole has remained a burden the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will live with.
Born 57 years ago, Hon. Olasunkanmi Abdulrasheed Akinlabi, was in 2003 elected as a senator of the Federal Republic. In 2007, he was appointed by the late President, Alhaji Musa Yar Adua as Minister for Youth Development. He was also kept in that position by President Goodluck Jonathan after the demise of Yar Adua. He left the office in 2011.
Dr. Sule Lamido, the Governor of Jigawa State has been a regular fixture in Nigerian politics. A modest man of the Mallam Aminu Kano masses oriented political bent, Lamido is blunt, fierce and combative when engaged politically.
