The story was once told of a monarch – you may call him Chief/Thief! – who led his gang to rob the convoy of a white man who had just paid his palace a courtesy call.
For clarity, a brief on one of the eras may suffice.The Age of Enlightenment of the 18th century, for instance, was a cultural movement in Europe when normal men and women thought that they could think for themselves, and be smarter. It had its center in France and there it was led by philosophers like Descartes and Denis Diderot. Diderot spread the enlightenment's ideas with the 'Encyclopédie,' the first big public book of reference.
The motto of Obafemi Awolowo University is ‘For Learning and Culture’. No one academic in Nigeria reflects and personifies that maxim more than Professor Chinua Achebe. The grandfather of modern English literature in Africa was both a colossus in learning as he was a thorough bred and highly cultivated individual in manners and character.

We live in a country that is almost in tatters and those who have collected the mandate to fix it are busy fixing themselves and their families while feeding fat on our common patrimony.
