Be focused, straight-forward in your dealings -ICAN President

The national President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Mr. Adedogun Idowu, FCA, has charged all members to be focused and straight-forward in the discharge of their respective assignments.

Idowu said this during his courtesy call on the Ikorodu chapter of the Institute and visit to the Chairman of Ikorodu West Local Development Centre.

He eulogized the chairman for maintaining discipline in the council. “Ikorodu is one of the most disciplined local government councils in Lagos,” he said.

He was accompanied by the Chairman, Ikorodu ICAN, Rev. Samson Disu, FCA, immediate past Chairman of Ikeja, Lagos ICAN, Mr. Joshua Oderinde, FCA, and a host of others to the Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu campus, where they were received by the Rector of the school, Dr. Abdulazeez Abioye Lawal.

Lawal, in his address, described the visit to the Accountancy Department of the school as a rare privilege, adding that the school was proud of the Institute because all the lecturers in the Department had passed through the Institute. “Your Institution gave birth to our lecturers in the Accounting Department and presently, our Bursar is your product.”

The entourage also visited the palace of Ayegbulan of Ikorodu, Oba Salahudeen Oyefusi Oguntade II, where the traditional ruler described the Institute as the pride of Nigeria. He added that the economy of any country was not in the hand of the politicians but in the domains of the accountants.

Oba Oguntade said, “I always tell people that the future of this country is not with politicians, but with you (accountants). There is no way money will go out without the knowledge of you the accountants.

The Ayegbulan of Ikorodu, however, urged the Institute to revive the economy of the country.

In his reaction, the ICAN national President, Mr. Adedogun Idowu, FCA promised that the Institute would maintain the standard of its training of  members and students so as to be instrumental to the transformational agenda of President Jonathan.

Rev. Samson Disu also revealed that the Institute was going on the second edition of “catch them young” programme, which would come up next month.

According to him, it is targeted at raising young generation of accountants from the grassroot.

Revd. Disu lauded the President’s visit and expressed belief that the visit will motivate its members, especially those who have not been part of the Ikorodu district campaign. “This visit will encourage members to identify themselves with the growth and development of the Ikorodu district in the country. This district is one of the District societies of ICAN that is making waves in ICAN today.”

The team also went to PHCL in Egbin before rounding off its visit at Caleb University.
